Public Page

The Public Page is your organization website at its Libcodesk address, such as your-library.libcodesk.com. It introduces the library, shows services and opening hours, highlights catalogue items, and can offer public membership registration when your organization enables it.

This page is separate from the member catalogue experience. Visitors use the public page to learn about the library, then follow the catalogue or registration actions you choose.

Before you begin

  • Use a Cloud setup. A Local setup shows an information card because a public website must remain available when the library computer is switched off.
  • Ask an organization admin for Public Page access. Editing, publishing, announcements, events, and branding can be granted separately.
  • Confirm the organization name, library contact details, address, opening hours, and logo before publishing.

Open the editor

  1. Open Settings > Public Page.
  2. Review the current publication status and revision number.
  3. Keep the preview visible while editing. Switch between desktop, tablet, and mobile preview sizes.

Edit content and sections

Use the real editor tabs:

  • Content: hero heading, introduction, about text, services, contact details, and section order.
  • Design: a library-appropriate theme, logo, colours, button style, and page imagery.
  • Announcements and events: dated visitor notices and upcoming activities.
  • SEO: page title, search description, sharing image, and indexing choice.

Enable only sections that help visitors. Move sections with the reorder controls; keyboard users can focus a section and use its up/down controls.

Save, preview, and publish

  1. Select Save draft. This does not change the live website.
  2. Check the desktop, tablet, and mobile preview.
  3. Open Open site if you need to compare the current live version.
  4. Select Publish when the draft is ready. The live page changes only after publishing succeeds.
  5. If the new version is unsuitable, use Restore previous and review it before continuing.

Do not close the editor while saving or publishing. The action shows progress and reports whether it succeeded.

  • Upload JPG, PNG, or WebP images no larger than 5 MB.
  • Add meaningful alternative text for content images.
  • Use clear, high-resolution library-owned images. Avoid text embedded inside hero images.
  • External links must use HTTPS. They open separately only when you explicitly choose that behavior.
  • The editor checks primary colour contrast so important buttons remain readable.

Public registration and member sign-in

The tenant public page does not show a general sign-in action. Join Library appears only when public registration is enabled. The catalogue remains a separate member service and opens from the catalogue action.

Do and don't

Do keep opening hours, address, phone, and announcements current. Use concise headings and preview narrow screens before publishing.

Don't publish private staff details, internal instructions, secret links, database information, or copyrighted images you do not have permission to use.

Troubleshooting

  • The Public Page menu is missing: ask an admin to grant the menu and view permissions.
  • Save is disabled: no normalized field has changed yet.
  • Publish fails: correct the highlighted URL, image, colour contrast, or required content and retry.
  • A notice is not visible: confirm it is enabled and its publish/expiry dates include today.
  • Catalogue cards are empty: verify that the organization has active catalogue records assigned to a library.
  • The Local setup shows a cloud message: this is expected; public hosting is a Cloud setup capability.

Frequently asked questions

Can a draft accidentally replace the live page?

No. Saving creates or updates a draft. Only Publish changes the visitor-facing page.

Can staff publish without changing organization settings?

Yes, if the admin grants the specific Public Page permissions. Publishing remains separately controllable.

Does changing this page redesign the OPAC?

No. It changes the tenant public website only. Catalogue and member services remain separate linked experiences.

What happens if publishing fails?

The existing published page stays live. Correct the reported issue and publish again.
