Appearance
Open Theme in the application header and choose Light, Dark, or System. System follows the device appearance automatically. Theme is no longer a separate item under Settings.
The application header also provides compact Theme and Language controls for quick changes from any main workspace page. Open the avatar menu to see the signed-in user's name and role above Edit profile. These controls work the same way in Libcodesk WebApp and the Standalone app.
The Standalone app and Libcodesk WebApp use the same design direction, but the selected theme is a user interface preference. It is not a library policy and does not change staff roles, members, books, circulation, or reports.
Add desktop and mobile screenshots of the header Theme menu showing all three choices and the active selected state.
When To Change Theme
- Choose a light theme for bright office environments.
- Choose a dark theme for low-light circulation desks or long working sessions.
- Check visual readability after changing theme, especially before training staff.
How Theme Choice Works
Appearance is a user interface preference. It should not change organization data and should not affect what other staff can do.
Use the header control when you want a comfortable working mode. Use Organization Settings when the admin wants to change organization identity or logo.
Recommended Workflow
- Open Theme in the application header.
- Select Light, Dark, or System. The selected option shows a tick.
- Review a data-heavy page such as Members or Staff Accounts.
- Keep the theme if forms, tables, and popups are comfortable.
The theme changes immediately. While the choice is being saved, the control shows progress. If saving fails, the previous choice returns and an error appears; check your connection and try again. Signed-in theme choices belong to your own account in the current setup. A choice made before sign-in applies on that device. Select the separate language control to change the interface language.
Do And Don'ts
- Use the same theme while preparing screenshots for staff training.
- Check important forms after changing theme so users are comfortable with contrast and labels.
- Let individual users choose a comfortable viewing mode where the app allows user-level preferences.
- Don't treat Appearance as a branding or organization setup page.
- Don't use theme changes to troubleshoot missing menus; missing menus usually come from permissions.
- Don't document workflows with mixed themes unless the guide clearly explains the difference.
FAQ
Does Appearance change library data?
No. Appearance changes the interface theme only. It does not change organization settings, staff permissions, member records, membership plans, or circulation data.
Why do staff see a different theme from the admin?
Theme choice can be user-specific. A staff member may choose a different comfortable theme without affecting the admin's workspace.
Can I use dark mode for all library work?
Yes. Libcodesk screens are designed for light and dark use. After switching, check data-entry screens such as Members, Staff Accounts, and Library Manager to confirm the theme is comfortable for your team.
Is Appearance the same as organization branding?
No. Organization branding, such as logo and identity details, is managed from Organization Settings. Appearance is only for the interface theme.
